Sassy Stripes From Sunflowerfairy

My sister seems to have revoked my camera-borrowing privileges, so until I can afford a digital camera (yeah, keep dreaming), I'll have to make do with my scanner.

Sunflowerfairy had some yarn and needles she wanted to get rid of at the last SnB, and she set aside some sock yarn and small-gauge DPNs for me. Have I mentioned how much I love this woman?

Sassy Stripes

Sassy Stripes

This is the sock yarn she gave me. It's Cascade "Sassy Stripes" wool/nylon blend. I have two skeins (200m ea.) of each colorway. Thanks to the bunches and bunches of steel DPNs I now have, I can cast on right away. One can never have too many WIPs, right? Right??

*ahem*

She also gave me some black wool and pale pink, fluffy, novelty yarn, which will go together to make a felted bag of some sort. After a quick swatch (to assure the feltability of the wool) and some aborted test pieces, I've decided that the bag doesn't want to be made just yet, so the yarn will be tucked in with the rest of my stash until it's ready to be played with.

Remind me to tell you about my Vacation Socks before I finish them.

Tangerine In Texas

I promised pictures of the finished shawl, and here they are. The yarn is Maple Creek Farm fine-weight alpaca, and the pattern is on page 84 of Victorian Lace Today by Jane Sowerby.

Greenery Group

Jess wondered if I had a gallery for people's Greenery hats, and I didn't, so I made one. Post your Greenery pictures in my new Flickr group!

If you don't have/want a Flickr account, email your pictures to me and I'll post them for you.

Thank you all so much for trying this pattern. I really, really appreciate all of your comments.

Podcast Notes

Okay. David put a few links related to our podcast on his blog, but I wanted to do a slightly longer list, so...

My favorite quote from the trip:
"Carnage isn't the right word... it's too happy!"

Bring It All Home

Gods, what a wonderful vacation. The first half of it is chronicled here, recorded late one night up in the Hill Country. I wish we could have recorded a bit about the second half of the trip, but by the time we got back to the house Saturday night, we were both exhausted and just wanted to curl up and go to sleep. We're going to see if we can co-'cast with 2,000 miles between us, but until then, here are some highlights:

Learning about San Antonio's history is romantic when you and your sweetie are dressed up and snuggled together in a horse-drawn carriage as the sun sets.

Mourning doves get all fluffy when they have sex.

I took my first two cab rides this weekend... somehow this makes me feel like more of an adult.

Being kissed by burros makes me happy.

Another visit, another virus... David gave me yet another cold. On the plus side, the head congestion affected my ears so much that I wasn't even a little bit airsick on the way home.

A Frenchwoman on the flight from Dallas to Hartford asked me why I was in Texas, and when I told her I was visiting David, she asked if I was going to marry him. Europeans are very direct like that.

Now it's time for Tylenol, orange juice, and comfy pillows. I'll post pictures of the Tangerine shawl once David uploads them.

I Don't Want To Go Home

In spite of the Republicans, Texas is now very high on my list of places I might want to move to after I graduate. I'm having a wonderful, amazing, super-happy time with David, and I don't want to go home.

Send money and my dog, and I'll be set.

Gotta Have A Fiddle In The Band

I'm off to play in Texas. I'll be back on the 15th, but the new semester starts on the 16th, so don't expect a coherent post until a few days after that.

Oh, and if any of you Texans are going to Scarborough Faire this Sunday, keep an eye out for us!

PSA

Weaving in ends on lace is annoying. Arg!

I probably won't get a chance to take pics of the shawl before I leave (Friday morning), but David has a wickedly cool camera, so I'll have him capture the prettiness while I'm there.

Friday! Eeeeee! Somebody remind me to breathe!
